New Novel – Word Count Progress

I've just started work on a new novel this month – here's hoping this one goes quicker than the last one (which took me about four years to write)!

For the next two months, I'll be tracking my progress on getting to 50,000 words with this project. My goal is to write around 1,000 words a day and, by the end of October, have a big, messy first draft from which I can start revising.

I've always been a fan of visual word-count trackers – they make me feel like I'm progressing rather than just floundering around aimlessly, which is what a lot of first-draft writing feels like. (If you like word-count trackers yourself, the one I'm using below is available here).

So, for the record, as of August 27th, I have just over 5,000 words down on paper. Let's see if, in two months, I can get this looking something like a book!
